¿Can an investment deliver financial returns while helping restore the sea? That question brought Banca March and several of its partner organisations together on 23 October 2025 for the Mediterranean Fund event, held in the auditorium of the Palma Aquarium Foundation.
Our CEO, Marco Mendoza, attended on behalf of Love The Mediterranean, an initiative led by Fundació Joves Navegants.
Exploring finance with impact
Following opening remarks from Carlos Navarro, Deputy Assistant General Manager at Banca March, and Almudena Benedit, Managing Director of March Asset Management, Marco joined a panel alongside Alberto Aguirre, Investment Manager at March A.M.; Ana Riera, Director of the Mallorca Preservation Foundation; and Débora Morrison, Conservation Director at the Palma Aquarium Foundation. The discussion was moderated by Cristina Gómez, Head of Specialist Advisory Services at Banca March.
The panel explored the major challenges facing the Mediterranean, the importance of sustainable finance, public–private collaboration and, above all, how to measure the real impact of conservation projects. For us, this question is fundamental: without reliable data, there is no way to know whether a “green” investment is making a meaningful difference.
All the speakers agreed on a principle we wholeheartedly share: sustainability must be integral to investment decisions, rather than a passing trend.
A fund that gives back to the sea
Managed by March A.M. since 2019, the Mediterranean Fund is an equity fund that invests in companies operating in the ocean and water economy. It allocates 10% of its management fee to marine conservation projects, with Love The Mediterranean among its partner initiatives.
A recent example of this collaboration was the Cavallets de mar Balears seahorse project. On 1 and 3 October 2025, the Palma Aquarium Foundation team released seahorses bred at its facilities into areas of high ecological value. The releases took place aboard our zero-emission electric vessels, with support from the 7 Mares diving centre.
Measuring impact to protect the sea
At TrueWorld, we believe sustainable finance can only work when it is backed by transparency. That is why we help projects measure and demonstrate their impact through reliable indicators and open data, such as those available through our public climate change observatory.
Thank you to Banca March and March A.M. for including Love The Mediterranean, and to the Palma Aquarium Foundation and the Mallorca Preservation Foundation for a discussion that matters so much to the future of our sea.
